Kohima Water Augmentation And Supply |

Minister for PHED, Dr. Ngangshi K. Ao said that augmentation of water supply to state capital Kohima town had been sanctioned by the Government of India at an estimated cost of Rs. 32.35 crores under funding pattern of Centre:State = 90:10 during 2004-2005. The project is designed to bring 10 million litres of water per day from Dzukou/Tepuiki stream by gravity through 250 mm diameter Galvanized Mild Steel (GMS) pipes for about 50 km distance to feed two lakhs population @ 50 lpca.
Replying to a starred question during the assembly session this morning, the Minister said that in course of implementation of the scheme, the water source land dispute had arisen for which discussion/negotiation is on to settle the land related problem both at the Government level and the village level. In the same vein, State Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio also sought cooperation from the concerned landowners and said that a meeting has been called on the coming Tuesday to deliberate on the issue and expedite the process.
Government of India has already released 1st and 2nd installment of the project amounting to Rs. 19.41 crores and with the amount the Department had procured 33251 meter 250 mm GMS pipes for use in the project.
